After the initial training we developed for Van Oord, an Offshore Contractor, they gave the second go ahead to capture the process of one of their other ships. This time we joined the offshore crew on board of the Aeolus. Van Oord needs their employees to be aware of the different safety hazards on site. But to get all their employees to their offshore platform becomes quite costly. Therefore we created a virtual reality safety training.
Again we captured the process of the installation of the foundation of an offshore windmill. This process takes, depending on the weather, minimal 16 hours. While we were on board a total of three foundations would be installed. Which gave us the opportunity to fully cover the process from multiple angles. Since I was the responsible camera operator I did not get a lot of sleep, but we did get loads of footage and fresh air.
