For Artis - The Royal Zoo of Amsterdam - we created a VR experience where the viewer could witness the release of two griffin vultures. They were born in the zoo and are now released back into the wild of Sardinia. The birds were fed and taken care of with a minimal amount of human presence, to prepare them for the wild.
Filming this experience meant we had to shoot this from a distance. It was not sure when the vultures would leave exactly. (This could take days). So we set-up two camera's which we could control from a distance with enough battery power to last as long as necessary. We got lucky and the birds decided to leave their aviary after about 2.5 hours after the doors were opened.
